NSF/ANSI Certification | What is it, and Why is it Important?. NSF International gives ranges for testing the water industry, in order to help ensure the quality and safety of the products in the water marketplace. ANSI helps promote and facilitate voluntary consensus standards, as well as conformity assessment systems. As there are no federal regulations covering residential water treatment filters, national standards and NSF protocols have been established for the safety of their users. Besides the NSF, there is also the Water Quality Association (WQA) and the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) to help set these safety standards. Through the NSF testing set up through these agencies, water filters comply with national and international standards for water safety.
